Joint parties’ council play role to widen political space: political parties

Addis Ababa, 20  May 2015 (WIC) – Political parties said the joint political parties’ council, established to promote dialogue among parties and solve challenges, is playing role in widening the political space.

 

The parties ENA interviewed said the council enabled to address challenges occurred during the course of election in addition to helping them reach consensus on national issues.

 

Coalition for Unity and Democracy (Kinijit) chairperson, Ayele Chamiso said the council helped them solve challenges happened during the election process by making it an agenda.

 

The council has created strong forum for political parties struggle for wider political space and respect the election law, he said.

 

President of the All Ethiopia National Movement parties, Mesafint Shiferaw said the council since its establishment is contributing a lot for a wider space.

 

It also contributed to strengthen the multi-party system by gathering various parties with different agendas and building their capacity, he added.

 

The Ethiopian Democratic Unity Movement (EDUM) chairperson Guesh Gebreselassie for his part said the council has the capacity to investigate and solve challenges.

 

According to him, the ruling party should work more to further strengthen the council’s capacity and widen political space.

 

The ruling party is working hard to build capacity of the parties through the council, said EPRDF public relation head Redai Halefom.

 

According to him, EPRDF has been providing solution for allegations upon the request of the parties.

 

According to ENA, eputy Head of the Electoral Board of Ethiopia, Wondimu Gola said the board is working to hold a free, democratic and fair election.
