Hailemariam casts ballot

Addis Ababa, 24  May 2015 (WIC) – Prime Minister Hailemariam cast his ballot at a polling station in Boloso Sore Woreda of Wolayita Zone in Southern Ethiopia Peoples state.

Hailemriam who is also Chairman of the ruling Ethiopian Peoples’ Revolutionary Democratic Front (EPRDF) is running for a seat in the House of Peoples’ Representatives as a candidate of the Southern Ethiopia Peoples Democratic Movement (SEPDM) one of the four parties under the umbrella of EPRDF.

After casting the ballot, Hailemariam told reporters that the high turnout of voters across the country is a manifestation of the democracy flourishing in the country.

Hailemariam said the high turnout of voters is encouraging, refering the long queue outside the polling station.

According to ENA, Hailemariam is among the 1,350 candidates fielded by the EPRDF for the fifth general elections, which 36.8 million voters are registered to cast votes.

Fifty-eight political parties are competing for the 547 seat parliament and regional state councils.
