Addis Ababa, 29 May/ 2015 (WIC) – The Tourism annual earnings of Southern Nations, Nationalities and Peoples Regional State (SNNP) has reached 242 million EB, Regional Tourism Office said.
The annual income from tourism was only five million EB two decades ago.
In his exclusive interview with WIC, Deputy Head of the Office, Shigute Tiyete said that the improvement is attained due to the full-blooded endeavors in enhancing tourism destinations and improving service deliveries that contributed for the increment of tourists’ flow in the region.
The influx of foreign tourists has raised to 198,300 currently from 18,000 twenty four years ago, he said adding that local tourists flow also has grown from 35,000 to 691,000.
It was noted that 110 movable and fixed heritages like religious sites, palaces, caves, hot springs, natural bridges, sculptures and paintings are recorded as tourist sites in the region.
