Productivity per hectare reaches 20 quintals

Addis Ababa, 3 June 2015 (WIC) – As the result of government’s tremendous efforts exerted to increase the productivity, Ethiopian farmers managed to harvest 20 quintals per hectare, Ministry of Agriculture said.

Senior Public Relations Officer in the Ministry Kebede Lakew told WIC that currently production per hectare hit 20.2 quintals, which is over 98.8 per cent of the 20.5 quintals per hectare target set in the GTP in main edible crop items and of the target.

The government considered that raising the productivity the country could play a major role in realizing the vision of becoming one of the middle income countries, it was noted.

Kebede also indicated that 12.4 million hectares of land was cultivated exceeding the targeted 11.9 million hectares of land.
