EIAR releases 52 new seedlings in this budget year

Addis Ababa, June 3, 2015 (WIC) – Due to the consolidated efforts the government of Ethiopia has exerted to maximize productivity, more than 52 new seedlings have released this facial year, Ethiopian Institute of Agricultural Research (EIAR) disclosed.

Research Integration Communication and Patent Right Protection Director of the Institute, Fiseha Zegeye said on press conference that the released new seedlings are approved by the national seedling accreditation committee.

The newly released seedlings include pulses, fruits, oily seeds, roots and vegetables, said Fisseha, adding that among the 52 new seedlings 34 were introduced by the Institute; whereas, the other 18 were introduced by the regional research Institutes and universities. 

During the press conference it was also explained that the amount of total crop production of the nation was 52 million quintals in1991 GC now reaches 269 million quintals, it was stated.  

The Ethiopian Institute of Agricultural Research was established in 1966 and so far it has released 975 improved agricultural technologies to enhance the agricultural productivity.
