Ethiopian Foreign Minister meets the YALI 2015 Fellows from Ethiopia

Addis Ababa, 18 June 2015 (WIC) – Foreign Minister Dr. Tedros Adhanom on June 17 June 2015 has   met the 13 Ethiopians selected for the 2015 Young African Leaders Initiative (YALI) Mandela Washington Fellows Program.

The Minister gave a detailed briefing to the group on Ethiopia’s regional and international diplomatic standing and its role in support of regional peace, security and development.

MoFA reported that he noted that Ethiopia plays an important role in enhancing the integration and development of Africa, and he highlighted its significant performance in safeguarding regional and global peace and security.

He said the country had also become a trailblazer in carrying forward the AU’s Agenda 2063 for the creation of a unified, prosperous and stable Africa.

The participation of the group at YALI would give real encouragement to the further deepening of Ethiopia-US ties in areas of mutual interest, he said.

He encouraged them urged them to use the opportunities presented by the YALI exchange program fully and then return home to contribute towards Ethiopia’s development.
Ambassador Taye detailed the existing excellent Ethiopia-US bilateral relationship and its growing partnership in peace, security, development, and human rights and democracy.

The group, who expressed their pleasure at being able to represent Ethiopia at YALI 2015, thanked the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for organizing the session to discuss Ethiopia’s development.
