Union plans to build ethanol factory

Addis Ababa, 11 July, 2015 (WIC) – Wonji Cooperative Union of Sugar Cane Plantations said that it has planned to build ethanol factory.

Union Deputy manager, Teshome Abera told WIC that the Union started functioning with an initial capital of only 45 thousand EB in 2000.

According to the Deputy Manager, the Union has now developed its capital to 20 million EB total and has planned to build ethanol factory in the near future.

According to Teshome, the union managed 30 cooperatives which have a total of over 30, 000 cooperative members working in fodder processing, animal rearing, agricultural tractors renting and supplying of sugarcane.

Fifty percent of cooperative members have got socio-economic benefits, said Teshome, and the Union underway efforts to produce ethanol from large molasses out puts released from Wenji sugar factory to increase the economic benefit of cooperative members.

Ermias Getachew member of the cooperative engaged in animal rearing, on his part said the livelihood of cooperative members including himself is absolutely changed from time to time.
