Ambassador Berhane meets members of European People Party (EPP)

Addis Ababa, 24 July 2015 (WIC) – State Minister Ambassador Berhane Gebre Cristos meets members of the European People Party (EPP) on the 22nd of July 2o15.

Discussion focused on the Ethio-EU relations, the developments in Ethiopia, the role of Ethiopia in the region and future areas of cooperation,  MoFA reported.

Ambassador Berhane briefs the EEP members on various issues  including the contribution of Ethio-EU relations for Ethiopia’s development, Ethiopia’s Federal system, its economic development, its peace and security role, the process and results of the recently concluded national election as well as the activities of and the organization of political parties’ in Ethiopia.

The State Minister noted that Ethiopia and the EU have been excellently collaborating in economic and peace and security areas among others. The support of the EU has been vital to catalyze the socio-economic developments in Ethiopia, he said, adding that the relations between Ethiopia and the EU and the European people will be further strengthened. Ambassador Berhane also emphasized the fact that Ethiopia’s federal system is changing the country and Africa for the better.

Manfred Weber, Chair- Group of the European People’s Party, on his part congratulated Ethiopia for the developments going on in the country and noted Ethiopia’s efforts in maintaining regional stability as vital in minimizing regional challenges like illegal migration. Ethiopia has been outstanding in its contribution in the regional and global peacekeeping efforts, he added.
