Ethiopia, Mexico to bolster cooperation

Addis Ababa, 3 September, 2015 (WIC)- Ethiopia and Mexico are intensively working to bolster cooperation and take their ties to a  higher level.

In his exclusive interview with Walta Information Center (WIC),  Mexican Ambassador to Ethiopia, Alfredo Miranda, said that Ethiopia and Mexico have close relationships since long in the past, in areas of  culture and gastronomy though they are distant geographically.

According to him, one of the areas the two countries are intensively working on is biotechnology, on which Addis Ababa University and National Autonomous University of Mexico are working in collaboration to exchange skill and knowledge.

Ethiopia has made a significant leap forward in hydro electric power development and Mexico is pretty open to work with Ethiopia in oil exploration, geothermal and hydroelectric power, he added.
Human rights and civil right protection are the other issues the two countries want to enhance ties and share experiences, the ambassador noted.

Ambassador Alfredo Miranda further said that Ethiopia’s historic role in peace keeping is such an exemplary one to the world.   Mexico wants to draw lessons from Ethiopia as the country has only two years of experience in peace keeping, he added.

Only in 2014, Mexico bagged 25 billion USD from 24 million tourists and 32 tourist sites recognized by UNESCO. The country is open to share experiences to Ethiopia as it is chosen as the Best Tourism Destination Country in the World this year, he underscored.

He also noted that the gastronomic week to be held from September 7-13, 2015 could open an opportunity to transfer skills and knowledge between the chefs     of Ethiopia and Mexico.
The Ambassador used this opportunity to wish a prosperous New Year to Ethiopia. Ethiopia and Mexico have a 66 years old diplomatic relationship, Walta learnt.
