Petroleum Truck drivers complain on offloading delay

Addis Ababa, 8 September 2015 (WIC)- Many drivers of petroleum trucks have complained on the unnecessary delay they are facing at the offloading depot located at Awash, Walta learnt.

Drivers told WIC that 60 to 70 oil trucks queued for many days have been waiting to offload more than ever due to repeated electric power failures.

One of the drivers, Meharene Tesfaye, said that the organization would have solved the problem by buying generators that can used when the power gets off.

Only about ten vehicles are offloading per day, despite its capacity for 30 vehicles, due to power shading, Meharene added.

Two machines have stopped functioning since six days, aggravating the challenge since the last few days, Wondu Yilala, another driver underscored.

General Manager of the Ethiopian Petroleum Organization Oil Supply and Sales office, Abayneh Awol, said the complaints are acceptable and  the organization is intensively working to settle inconveniences by buying and installing generators and smoothly managing  the power failure.

Besides the Awash depot, the organization has planned to offload at Kombolcha and Adigrat and other depot sites in order to stave off the high traffic around Awash Depot. The organization also noted that in the future such inconveniences will be resolved timely in collaboration with stake holders, Walta learnt.
