Tigray licenses over 1,000 investment projects with 14.8 bln birr capital

Addis Ababa, 10 September, 2015(WIC) – The Tigray region urban development, construction and Industry bureau said it has issued investment licenses for over 1000 investment projects with 14.8 bln capital in the last fiscal year.

Investment business process head with the Bureau, Goitom Gebrekidan, told WIC that the bureau did plan to give investment licenses for 1,500 projects with total capital of 16 Billion birr during the stated period.    
According to Goitom, the bureau has licensed local and foreign investors to engage in manufacturing, agriculture, social services, culture and tourism sectors during concluded budget budget year.

The new projects have the potential to create 26,000 permanent and over 45,000   temporary jobs for citizens, Goitom added.

The Investment flow to the Tigray regional state has significantly increased since 1993 due to viable investment policy, improved service delivery, and proximity to port Djibouti, Goitom Indicated.

The Tigray regional state so far has given licenses for over 5,000 investment projects which created over 970,000 permanent and temporary jobs.
