Ethiopia, EU Review Growing Engagement

Addis Ababa, 06 October, 2015(WIC) — The European Union (EU) has revealed its growing engagement with Ethiopia in diverse fields of development at a media forum organised by the EU Delegation to Ethiopia here Tuesday to share the progress in exchanges over the past 40 years.

The EU and Ethiopia are marking the 40th anniversary of a “strong and successful partnership”, according to a information distributed to to journalists at the forum.

Officials of the EU Delegation in Addis Ababa made presentations on various themes of development, with some highlighting the successes witnessed in Ethiopia.

Chantal Hebberecht, the Head of the EU Delegation to Ethiopia, spoke of the EU’s leading role in Ethiopia in many development and social sectors.

Priority areas of the Ethiopia-EU co-operation included roads and energy, health, sustainable agriculture, environment, food security and support to civil society organisations, according to the ambassador.

The European Development Fund (EDF) has allocated an initial 745 million Euro for the period to 2020 to support government-led programmes in Ethiopia, the ambassador said.

The EU is one of the most important trading partners of Ethiopia, representing about 30 per cent of Ethiopia’s main export destination and 17 per cent of its imports ((BERNAMA).
