‘TPLF support, role for the success of ANDM is irreplaceable’ – ANDM Chairman

Addis Ababa, 23 November 2015 (WIC) – The chairman of the Amhara National Democratic Movement (ANDM) and the deputy Prime Minister of Ethiopia (DPM) said that the support and role of Tigray People’s Liberation Front (TPLF) to the stunning success of ANDM is irreplaceable.

Demeke Mekonnen  noted that TPLF lent a helping hand to ANDM in the dark days of the armed struggle. The chairman acknowledged the support provided and the role played by TPLF in his speech made at the 35th anniversary of the party celebrated last Saturday at Bahir Dar.

“TPLF has accepted us with the sense of brotherhood in those dark days of our armed struggle. We have paid sacrifices through blood and flesh.  Their support and role in those days were irreplaceable. We want to say thank you very much to TPLF, its leadership and the people of Tigray while colorfully celebrating our 35th anniversary,” said Demeke while addressing the mass gathered at Bahir Dar stadium.

Demeke highlighted that TPLF has provided safe sanctuary to ANDM in those darks days of its formation when everything went dismal. It was at this critical juncture in the course of our history that TPLF provided practical support through blood and flesh.

The DPM also noted that the relationship between ANDM and that TPLF is connected through blood.

“The bond of our relationship deep rooted in our commitment for common purpose is now bearing the fruits of development. The barren hills and mountains comrade paid their precious life for are now glittering with fertility.

We are celebrating our anniversary colorfully by leaping from strength to strength and accompanied by colorful achievements. So, it is high time for us to extend our heartfelt acknowledgement,” said the DPM.

The DPM extended special thanks to the late Prime Minster of Ethiopia, Meles Zenawi. He said that even though the late Prime Minister is not with us as usual while we celebrate our anniversary, we publicly want to extend our special thanks to him for his sincere contribution to ANDM.

“We want to assure our public that we will continue to follow the ideological architecture laid by the late Prime Minster. We will strengthen the fight to pursue it. We want to thank him for this as well,” he said.
