School net said key to ensure equitable access to education

Addis Ababa, 04 January 2015 (WIC)- The Addis Ababa City Adminstartion Education Bureau has announced that the School net program, that is under implementation, is playing a vital role in ensuring equitable access to enducation.

Bureau head, Delamo Otore, told Walta Information Center that the technology assited progarm is being applied in 67 high school and preparatory scholls in the city admnistration. He said that school net is playing an importat role in ensuring equitable access to education.  

According to the head, school net has created an opportunity to reap the benefits of international academic expertise. It offers students the option to follow instructors of their choice from different part of the world, he noted.    

Delamo reminded that students used to miss classes transmitted through plasma program in the past. They don’t have the option to retrieve classes they have missed. However, the school net program has changed the system of delivery. The students now have the option to follow subjects of their interest at their convenience, remarked Delamo. 

The school net program which is assisted by Information Communication Technology (ICT) has finalized its preparation phase and shall enter into the  implementation phase in secondary and preparatory schools in Addis Ababa, according to information obtained from the bureau.  According to the same source, the experts needed to carry on the program have been trained in South Korea.      

Delamo noted that the school net program has been implemented jointly by Ethiopian and Chinese professionals. The plan is to carry out the program all in all by Ethiopians. Accordingly, Ethiopians are sharing Chinese expertise, Delamo told Walta.
