Trios appoints new consultant to assess impact of GRED

Addis Ababa, 18 January 2016 (WIC) – Ethiopia, Egypt and Sudan appointed new consulting company responsible to study the impact of Ethiopian Great Renaissance Dam (GRED) on lower riparian countries, Ministry of Water, Irrigation and Electricity announced.

Minister Motuma Mekassa told journalists that a new consulting company was appointed following the withdrawal of Delta Res, one of the two formerly appointed companies, for its failure to discharge the agreed up responsibility.

The trios have agreed to engage BRL and Delta Res in the due course of the assessment, the minister said, adding that  it was jointly agreed that 70 percent of the work to be conducted by BRL while 30 percent goes to Delta Res.

According to the information obtained from the ministry, the two French companies are expected to come up with their proposal at the end of February 2016.

The study is expected to swiftly commence after the review of the agreed proposal by the technical committees.
