Oromia to create over 1 mln jobs this budget year

Addis Ababa, August 18, 2016 (FBC) – The Oromia Regional State is set to create jobs for more than 1 million people this Ethiopian budget year.

Milkesa Jagema, Head of the State Urban Food Security and Job Creation Agency, said the stated number of people will benefit from the factories that will be established on 16,000 hectares of land to manufacture utility poles, marble and mineral water.  

According to Milkesa, the Regional State has earmarked over half a billion birr budget for the success of the plan and for other agricultural mechanization activities.

About 53,000 of beneficiaries of the job opportunities will be graduates from technical and vocational training colleges as well as universities, he said.

Oromia created jobs for close to 780,000 people in various sectors in the concluded budget year, including in manufacturing, construction, service, animal rearing and fattening, among others.
