Tigray commemorates Meles via various events

August 19, 2016(WIC) – The Tigray Regional State has disclosed that it has commenced commemorating the late Prime Minister Meles Zenawi through various events, Regional Communication Bureau said.

The Bureau indicated that the events are aimed at sustaining the legacy and commitment of the great leader by the present generation.

Bureau Head, Gebremikael Meles, told WIC that discussion forum are prepared in various major cities of the region including Mekele and candle shall be lighted in the evening.

He also noted that seeding plantation shall be undertaken in parks that are named after the former Prime Minister. Previously plants seedlings shall be protected and these activities shall enable to sustain Meles’s dream of establishing a country with green economy.

The region is persevering to establish model parks that can strengthen green economy in the country, he noted.

The traditional Ashenda celebration that is being underway in the region shall also be used to commemorate the late PM. As the ceremony is an event where women can freely participate, it can symbolize, Meles’s struggle for the right of women, he added.

He also urged the public to stand behind the government and sustain the constitutional system and sovereignty of the country as an owe from the late PM.

The regional has set platforms that can address public woes that are tied with lack of good governance and rent seeking tendencies, he added.
