Embassies based in Addis Ababa, including the U.S. and British embassies, have expressed their condolences over the loss of lives in Bishoftu town at the annual Irrecha celebration.
“We express our deepest condolences to the loved ones of the victims at the Irrecha celebration in Bishoftu. We hope that those with injuries will receive the care they need,” the US embassy said
Similar the British embassy said “UK sends deep condolences to families of those who lost lives at Bishoftu on 2 Oct. We regret the violence seen over weekend & urge all to act with calm, order & mutual respect.”
Moreover, Swedish and Canadian embassies as well as the European Union Delegation to Ethiopia expressed their deepest condolences to the families of the people who lost their lives at the celebration.
