Commission reclaims 96 square meters land, 105 mln birr over nine months

 

The Oromia region’s Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission announced that it has reclaimed 96 square meters of land and 105 million birr taken over by corruption over the last nine months.

 Commissioner Hirut Biresa told journalists in a press conference that measures being taken on corruption and rent-seeking activities should be persistently continued to ensure good governance, economic and social developments.

The property of over 100 higher officials is registered; she said adding that the commission has been carrying out 12 studies in corruption prone areas.  He said that in the region over 600 people suspected of corruption are brought to before the court of law.

He also said that the commission saved 30.6 million birr that would have been wasted due to poor management.

Nine million birr that could have been misused in relation to tender is also saved, he added.

7 million birr that was held to be gained in corruption freeze by the bank, 40 houses were confiscated and six vehicles also hold for corruption exhibit, he said.  

The Commission said it has accomplished 86 percent of last nine months plan.
