Meles Zenawi Academy Striving to Build Competent Leaders

Meles Zenawi Leadership Academy is striving to produce competent leaders that are equipped with democratic and developmental thoughts through continuous training, according to the Academy.

The Academy has admitted 500 senior leaders yesterday.

Meles Zenawi Academy President, Tedros Hagos told ENA on the sidelines of the beginning that the academy will create competent leaders at all levels in order to ensure the sustainable development and renaissance of the country.

“Ultimately, the  goal of the leadership capacity training is to create a relatively better capacity in order to implement GTP 2 programs,” Tedros said.

During the training, they will evaluate the performance of Growth and Transformation Plans 1 and 2 to gain lessons that could be used for the successful implementation of the ongoing GTP 2, he added.

According to the President, possible solutions that expedite the programs which are lagging will be examined scientifically after a thorough discussion on all programs of GTP 2.

An understanding mainly on problems that are faced in implementation will therefore be created, he noted.

Speaking about the academy’s aspiration, the President pointed out that it is “to train as many leaders as possible, not only the existing ones; but potential leaders for the future.”

The academy reportedly exchanges experiences on qualified leadership from various leadership institutions and countries that can possibly empower it.

The present training of the senior leaders will be given for 40 days, while all middle level leaders will start taking this same training in Mekele, Adama, Hawassa and Bahirdar cities beginning from July 10, 2017.

The academy has so far graduated over 30,000 junior, middle, and senior leaders. It also provides special training tailored to the needs of various leaders.
