Government arrests two higher officials suspected of corruption

The former Director General of Ethiopian Roads Authority, ZaidWoldegebreal and State minister of the Ministry of Finance and Economic Cooperation, AlemayehuGojo, whose immunity revoked by the parliament today are arrested for alleged corruption.

Alemayehu is arrested after he was suspected of awarding a 20 mln dollar work to a certain company against the working procedure of the ministry.

According to him, Federal General Attorney, Alemayehu is not only suspected of working without tender but also with the intention of reporting unfinished words as if they are done and made payments.

He also facilitated the import of 8 vehicles without tax, and made these cars as collateral to get loan from banks and let the 2.2 mln dollar worth to other institution.

Alemayehu, who served the ministry for eight years, appreciate the government’s cracking down on corruption and rent-seeking.

However, he said that he whish his case to be discussed in administrative and political platforms and believe that the justice system will reveal the truth.

For similar case,Zaid, was for a long time led the Authority, and suspected of committing corruption in his tenure.

So far, the government has arrested 50 corruption suspects.
