The proposals forwarded by Ethiopia on main agendas tabled at the 72nd UN General Assembly and parallel forums have gained acceptance, Prime Minister Hailemariam Dessalegn disclosed.

At the UNSC the proposal for peace keeping was endorsed unanimously by all 15 members and the need for implementation of the Paris climate agreement stressed. Production of nuclear weapons was also condemned.
Ethiopia has also expressed its concern about the confrontation in the Korean Peninsula, unless resolved quickly would be a global threat to peace.
Besides, Ethiopia had been the main actor at the forum where directions for the resolutions of the crisis in South Sudan and to extricate Somalia from the terroristic acts of al-Shabaab were put in place.
The Premier told journalists that the proposals forwarded by Ethiopia on regional and global issues had gained acceptance.
The unanimous adoption of the reform document on the operations of UN peacekeeping that emanated from the rich experience Ethiopia by all 15 member countries of the UNSC was a great success to Ethiopia, Hailemariam noted.
The Ethiopian position on climate change, which is inflicting massive human and material destruction, was also expressed at the various forums, it was learned.
Ethiopia is suffering from drought caused by climate change and others by hurricane and flood, Hailemariam said, adding that the EU, China, Canada, Australia and others have expressed their strong support and partnership to the implementation of the Paris agreement.
Ethiopia has once again firmly voiced and advocated the African stand on climate change, he pointed out.
The PM recalled that Ethiopia as Chair of IGAD has played a vital role in bringing peace and stability to South Sudan and added that the proposed idea to further enhance peace and stability gained acceptance by members of IGAD.
He also mentioned that partners have extended their support to the peacekeeping forces drawn from Ethiopia, Kenya, and Rwanda to fully enable the peacekeeping activity.
Recalling the extension of the mandate of AMISOM in Somalia, Hailemariam said financial support which in turn will facilitate the peacekeeping process should be finalized within a short period.
Secretary-General of UN, Antonio Guterres is expected to hold discussion on finalizing the issue here in Africa, he revealed.
A short-term plan has already been drafted to weaken al-Shabaab through strengthening AMISOM forces, the Prime Minister indicated and emphasized that anyone that destructs the political process in Somalia must be stopped.
Mentioning that he had sideline meetings with his Japanese counterpart on issues of Korean Peninsula, the premier urged member states of AU to condemn the irresponsible acts of North Korea. (ENA)
