Ethiopia’s UNSC leadership effective: MoFA Spokesperson

Ethiopia has shown effective leadership during its presidential term as Chair of UN Security Council for the month of September, according to Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA).

Briefing journalists today, Ministry of Foreign Affairs Spokesperson Meles Alem said Ethiopia has played significant role in reflecting the interest of Africa during the term.

He explained that six resolutions and one presidential statement were passed on DPRK, Mali, Colombia, Libya and improvements to be made on UN Peace Keeping Mission.

The country has lobbied on important issues which deserved the attention of the UN and a joint UNSC and AU Commission discussion about Peace and Security was held in Addis Ababa.

The Spokesperson further explained that Ethiopia and India are resolved to strengthen their diplomatic and economic relations to work together on education, investment and other sectors.

According to him, the official visit President Ram Nath Kovind to Ethiopia after 45 years presidential visit is part of the effort towards strengthening bilateral relations.

Meles  reveled  that 574 Indian factories with a total 10 billion birr are currently operating in Ethiopia. The factories have created more than 50,000 jobs in the country.

Diplomatic relations between Ethiopia and India began in 1948. (ENA)
