Working on Attitude of Youth Critical to Enhance Employment Opportunities

Working for attitudinal change among the youth is important to permanently address challenges related to job creation, Prime Minister Hailemariam  Desalegn said.

 While addressing a meeting aimed to evaluate quarterly performance of regional governments and executives related to job creation, the Premier said bringing attitudinal change is important to enhance employment opportunities.

 Expanding employment opportunities for the youth is top on the country's agenda, as its contribution towards sustainable economic development is crucial.

 In this regard, the Premier underscored the need to direct the youth towards the right path.

 Hailemariam said that this year’s job creation program focuses on two important areas – increasing the number of wage employment and engagement in micro and small enterprises.

 More than three million jobs were expected to be created during the current Ethiopian fiscal year, of which youth is expected to benefit from 75 percent of the jobs.

 Of the youth who will benefit from job opportunities this year, 75 percent will join small and middle level enterprises as employees, while 25 percent engage in manufacturing, services and commercial activities.

 He also urged regional governments to work on the attitude of the youth to successfully utilize the revolving fund that was allocated by the federal government improve employment opportunities.

 Deputy Prime Minister, Demeke Mekonen, on his part urged the need strengthen the capacity of the youth through training so as to enhance their capability and benefit.

 Attitudinal transformation among the youth should also be realized to create a strong and self reliant generation, he added.

 During the meeting first quarter performances of the nine regional states, the two city administrations and government agencies were discussed in relation to job creation. (ENA)
