SNNPR ethics, anti-corruption commission discloses plan to sustain the campaign at all levels

The South Nations, Nationalities and People’s Regional state ethics and anti-corruption commission disclosed that it has planned to sustain its anti-corruption campaign in all levels of the government ladder.

The commission indicated that the court have passed decisions on 351 of the 462 cases submitted before them on corruption cases last year alone.

Commissioner of the regional commission, Abayneh Adeto, said the anti-corruption campaign is scheduled to continue with better and successful strategies this year.

The society at large has made greate contributions in tipping corrupt deeds and bringing this engaged in such practices to justice, he noted.

Among the more than 300 prosecutions brought before the courts, about 30 of them were alleged to be committed in urban and rural land administrations and service sectors.

He also underscored that the region is making extensive studies on factors that are contributing to corrupt and unethical deeds. More than 53 cases in tax evasion, 66 cases in procurement and bidding, and 81 cases in production of fake education certificates were investigated and the courts have passed decisions on.

The regional commission has returned more than 18.6 million birr embezzled in different public sectors and those found guilty are punished up to 15 years of imprisonment and 105 thousand birr fine, he disclosed.

About 44 corruption cases were brought to court and 54 public officials serving at different levels are sued during the last four months alone, he said.
