Any Egyptian proposal on the dam should consider Ethiopia’s interest: Scholar

Any proposal that is being forwarded by Egypt on the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD) should consider the interest of Ethiopia and be based on research, said Yacob Arsano, who conducted repeated study on Abay River.

Egyptian Foreign Minister, Sameh Shoukry, who recently payed visit to Ethiopia, proposed the world bank experts to involve in the research as he believes they are impartial for both countries.

Responding to Egypt’s proposal, Ethiopian Foreign Minister, Workneh Gebeyehu, said that Ethiopia will mull on the proposal.

According to Dr. Yacob, the new proposal is peculiar from the rest of the negotiation process.

He said that the response Ethiopia has forwarded is “fair and diplomatic.”
