The 6th Ethio-Egypt Joint Ministerial Commission Senior officials Meeting opens

The 6th Ethio-Egypt Joint Ministerial Commission Senior officials Meeting opened in Cairo, Egypt today (January 16, 2018). 

The session which was attended by a working group of experts drawn from the two countries would review the implementation of previous agreements, and discuss on the different proposals and draft agreements as well as explore new venues of cooperation.

Opening the session, African Affairs Director-General, Ato. Ayele Lire noted that Ethiopia and Egypt have common interests on diverse areas.

He added, the six joint ministerial commission offers an important platform to review various cooperation agreements and jointly explore potentials for further meaningful cooperation.

Ambassador Mohammed Idris, Assistant Minister for African Affairs at the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs said the relations between the two countries have great potential for further growth and consolidation.

The Ambassador further said the current joint ministerial commission would give new impetus to the bilateral cooperation between the two countries. 

The senior experts meeting is expected to convene on three clusters: political, economic and social affairs.

The meeting is also expected to work on draft agreements and Memoranda of Understanding on a range of areas, including diplomatic and political consultations, industry, customs and mining among others.

The draft agreement would further be tabled for the Ministerial Session due to unfold on Wednesday (January 17, 2018).
