Ethiopia congratulates Koreas

The Ethiopian government congratulated South Korea and North Korea on successfully convening a historic summit between the leaders of the two countries on April 27, 2018.

The summit resulted in the signing of the Panmunjom Declaration for Peace, Prosperity and Unification of the Korean Peninsula.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs with its statement noted that “Ethiopia welcomes this high-level Inter-Korean Summit and the Declaration aimed at easing military tensions and bringing peace to the Korean peninsula.”

“It has been Ethiopia’s long-standing position that the resolution of the crises in the Korean Peninsula can be achieved only through the resumption of dialogue and a peaceful and diplomatic path,” it said.

“In this context, Ethiopia is highly encouraged by the summit and its outcomes as it will contribute to a comprehensive and lasting solution to the conflict between the two sides and achieve the denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula,” the statement added.

“Ethiopia is supportive of the Panmunjom Declaration and hopes the two countries will build on the good atmosphere created by the Summit to boost the necessary trust and confidence between the governments and peoples of the two countries for lasting peace and stability of the Korean peninsula culminating in unification of the two brotherly peoples,” the statement said.
