Premier Abiy arrives in Cairo

Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed has arrived on Saturday evening in Cairo for two-day official visit.

The premier was warmly welcomed in the capital Cairo by his host President Abdul Fetah Alsisi.

The Prime Minister during his visit is expected to meet with senior Egyptian officials including President Abdel-Fattah al-Sisi to discuss issues of mutual concerns on the top of regional and international.

As the two countries have historical and cultural relations, they have been discussing on ways of developing their economic and political ties.

Abiy has visited Uganda, Djibouti, Sudan, Kenya, Saudi Arabia and United Arab Emirates after being elected as Prime Minister of Ethiopia two months before.

During his visit, he has discussed on bilateral, regional and global issues with the respective leaders of the countries.

The Prime Minister also signed several agreements that could further boost up the bilateral relationships with these countries.

In May, an Egyptian delegation to Addis Ababa comprised of Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry and acting head of the Egyptian General Intelligence Directorate Abbas Kamel formally invited Primer Abiy to visit Cairo.

It is to be recalled that President Abdulfetah Alsisi has visited Ethiopia in March 2015.

Ethiopia and Egypt established their diplomatic ties in 1927, to be the oldest on the African continent.
