Former founder and Executive Committee member of OPDO, Yonathan Dubissa, and member of the army of Oromo Liberation Front, Colonel Abebe Geresu, have abandoned armed struggle and returned home.
The leaders, who led armed struggle, returned to their homeland heeding to the call of peace and love by Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed.
Yonathan Dubissa was sheltered in Eritrea and headed the political department of the Oromo Liberation Front for more than 17 years.
He said the stable situation created in the country made him decide to come back to Ethiopia.
“I was attracted and satisfied by the calls for peace and the prevailing favorable condition in the country,” Yonathan said.
Colonel Abebe Geresu has been fighting for the causes of the Oromo Liberation Front, after he defected from the armed forces with 100 servicemen.
Colonel Abebe, who fought for 11 years, decided to come home and struggle peacefully as the prevailing situation allows this.
Head of the Office of the Prime Minister, Fitsum Arega said they were won by love; and their return is special as they came home in the same flight with Prime Minister Abiy. (ENA)
