The Federal Government has vowed to continue the efforts began to ensure sustainable reinstatement of people displaced due to conflicts several months ago.
In a statement issued today, office of the Prime Minister said displaced communities in east and west Guji as well as Gedeo zones have returned to their original residences following reconciliation between the conflicting groups.
However, in east Guji, up to 13,000 chose not to return to their original residences. Gedeo community members that had originally returned to their residences have returned to the camp out of individual fear.
Unaffected individuals have also entered the camp, thereby increasing the numbers, the statement added.
But, following the request of the Gedo zone administration for the provision of food aid, the Federal Government through the National Disaster Risk Management Commission, has further strengthened its support.
The Government in collaboration with international agencies has been delivering flour, oil and enriched food to those in Gedeo zone, particularly in Gedeo woreda and Gotiti kebele.
Some criminal elements have also been occasionally seized food received by the Gedeo. However, continuous food and non food aid is being delivered despite some disruption on the Guji sides.
On March 11, 2019, the Commission has transported enriched, flour, legumes and oil from reserves in Adama city, ahead of the standard 72-hours dispatch time.
Following the consultations held yesterday between members of displaced Gedeo communities and Muferiat Kamil, Minister of Peace, some members acknowledged the inaccuracy of claim that no food aid has been received, the statement noted.
The office finally said that the Federal Government remains seized of the matter and will continue its efforts to ensure sustainable reinstatement of the displaced people.
