Rwanda: “Walk to Remember” Set for tomorrow in Addis Ababa

The Embassy of the Republic of Rwanda in Ethiopia in collaboration with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ethiopia, is organizing a Walk to Remember on Sunday 19th May 2019 from 8:00 am to 10:00 am, as part of the activities to mark the 25th Commemoration of the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi in Rwanda under the theme: Remember-Unite-Renew.

The Walk is scheduled to be held on the route: National Stadium-Meskel Square-ECA-Palace-Ethiopia Hotel-National Theatre and back to the National Stadium.
 

The Walk to Remember is an initiative developed and conducted during the Commemoration of the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi in Ethiopia. It is a purposeful walk that aims at honoring the victims while building a future of Rwanda and Africa that is free of divisionism and violence.

The walk promotes awareness of genocide, fosters Unity and Reconciliation, and empowers participants to take a serious reflection and an active stand against genocide whilst giving a message of hope to survivors as well as commitment for NEVER AGAIN to Genocide!

Participants in the walk will gather inside the stadium at 7:30 am. The close to 4 kilometers Walk to Remember will begin at 8:00am followed by the Lighting of the Flame of Remembrance and key messages to be delivered by high level officials.

The event is expected to attract 2,200 participants comprising of Ethiopians, especially members of youth and women associations, Rwandan Community living in Addis Ababa and the Diplomatic Community based in Addis Ababa.
