Abiy meets Japan’s PM Shinzo Abe

Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed has met his Japanese counterpart Shinzo Abe on the sidelines of the 7th International Conference on African Development (TICAD 7).

Abiy informed Abe on multifaceted reforms that are underway in Ethiopia.

As indicated by the Prime Minister’s Office, he also has told Abe that he has the vision to make Ethiopia become one of the leading five economies in Africa.

He called upon the Government of Japan’s support for this initiative as well as for Japanese business investments in agriculture, tourism, ICT and mining. 

Abiy also requested Abe to facilitate employment opportunities for skilled Ethiopian youth in various sectors in Japan.

PM Shinzo Abe on his part expressed his support for PM Abiy and the domestic reforms he is undertaking.

He also acknowledged the role of Ethiopia in promoting peace with Eritrea; in South Sudan talks and PM Abiy’s role in the Sudan agreements.

He affirmed Japan’s continued support for Ethiopia and shared particular assistance for the construction of the Jimma-Chida road.
