PM Called On Sudanese Stakeholders to Focus on Building Inclusive, Prosperous Country

Prime Minister Dr Abiy Ahmed has called on all stakeholders in Sudan to reach a consensus and redirect their focus to building an inclusive and prosperous country.

He made the remarks at the consultative meeting of leaders of IGAD Member States which was held in Juba, South Sudan with a view to reconciling the Sudanese government and the Sudanese armed groups.

according to the office of the prime minster, Abiy said the beginning of negotiations between the new Sudanese government and armed groups is a demonstration of the will for peace and reconciliation by both sides.

The Ethiopian Prime Minister returned home tonight following the conclusion of the consultation.

Following the Ethiopia/African Union (AU) – led mediation efforts, Sudan’s military leaders and the opposition alliance signed an agreement last August to share power until elections is held.

The historic deal was signed by Mohamed Hamdan Daglo, deputy chief of the military council, and opposition leader Ahmed al-Rabie, in Khartoum, the capital of Sudan.

Prime Minister Dr Abiy Ahmed, South Sudanese President Salva Kiir, and heads of other neighboring countries attended the signing ceremony.
