Brigadier-General Haile dies at 62 

Addis Ababa, August 15, 2016 (WIC) –   Brigadier-General Haile Tilahun, who has been Head of Mission of the United Nations Interim Security Force for Abyei (UNISFA) has died at the age 62 of natural causes.

The late Haile was appointed by United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon as the Head of Mission of UNISFA in January, 2015.

Brigadier-General Haile, who served in various government posts, was among the founders of the Ethiopian Peoples’ Democratic Movement (EPDM) that later changed to ANDM.  

Following the fall of the military regime, the late Haile has served in various positions at the Ethiopian Ministry of Defense including State Minister of Defense (2003 to 2006), Ethiopian Air Force Deputy Commander (1998 to 2001), Chief of Administration (1997 to 1998) and Chief of Logistics (1996 to 1997).

The late Haile has a master’s degree from the Open University in the United Kingdom.

Survived by three children, the burial of Brigadier-General Haile Tilahun will be held tomorrow at the Saint Trinity Cathedral.
