AAU undertakes expansion worth close to 4 bln ETB

The Addis Ababa University said that it is undertaking expansion projects worth close to 4 billion ETB to scale up services.

Public Relations Director with the University, Asemahegn Asres, told Walta that the university is intensively expanding construction of projects to solve lack of library, laboratory, offices, dormitories and classrooms and ultimately broaden accessibility and facilities of services.

Asemahegn added that construction of new buildings for female students’ dormitory, Journalism and Communications Complex,  Black Lion Hospital, School of Commerce and  a branch at Kolfe Keranio Sub City are among the expansion projects undertaken by the university.

So far the university has inaugurated a huge library at the main campus that can function at international standard, he noted.

 Asemahegn noted that  the university has finalized preparations to admit 1,000 students as a record in the history of the university in the PhD regular programs this academic year.

Similarly, the university has planned to admit 3,200 and 5,000 regular students in first degree and second degree programs respectively this academic year.

It was noted that the university has announced to register new entrants of first degree regular students on October 9th and 10th, 2017.

Addis Ababa University has graduated over 230,000 students since its establishment, 1950, Walta learnt.
