Debre Ziet agricultural research center announced that it is distributing improved teff varieties for beneficiaries found across the country.
Director of the center, Dr Solomon Chanyalew told WMC that the center has released three improved teff seeds that enable to increase the yield and productivity of teff during the last budget year.
According to Dr Solomon, the center is undertaking activities to widely distribute best teff varieties for farmers found in different regions during this budget year.
Dr Solomon noted that the center underway multiple researches to raise the productivity main crop of the country.
The three new varieties of teff released by the center are pest and weed resistant and have the potential to produce 30 quintals of teff per hectare, Dr Solomon underscored.
Nugus , Filagot and Tesfa are the names of the best varieties of teff distributing to the beneficiaries of farmers across the country, Dr Solomon indicated.
Currently, any farmer who effectively utilize best varieties of teff, fertilizer, improved practices and agricultural technologies can harvest up to 30 quintals of teff per hectare ,he stated .
Debre Ziet agriculture research center conducted integrated activities with agricultural development research extension council and zonal agricultural offices targeting to increase the productivity of teff all over the country ,walta learnt.
