The Pharmaceutical fund and supply Agency (PFSA) said that it has purchased six cancer treatment radio therapy machines with a total cost of 21 million USD.
Public Relations and Communication Director of PFSA, Adina Berie, told WMC that the agency has procured six latest cancer treatment radio therapy machines in order to strengthen public services of cancer treatment through radiation technology.
According to Adina, the agency has targeted to hand over the six new radio therapy machines to Tikur anbessa , Jimma, Haremaya, Hawassa , Gonder and Mekele general hospitals.
So far, cancer patients across the country are only treated in Tikur Anbessa hospital with prolonged appointments, Adina underscored. The new imported radio therapy machines will have indispensable role towards increasing patients’ access to cancer treatment, he reiterated.
Adina noted that the new radio therapy machines are equipped with modern cancer radiation treatment for the patients and this is expected to minimize costs of going abroad for treatment.
The new radio therapy machines that are targeted to give public services in six general hospitals of the country are also expected to create good opportunities to create knowledge transfer for health and medical students enrolled in the universities .
