National Blood bank to operate outdoor to boost reserve volume

National Blood Bank announced that it will introduce new technologies and operate outside of regular blood donation center to boost the volume of blood being collected from volunteerts.

Banks’s Acting Blood Donor Volunteers service director, Dr. Temesgen Abeje told WMC that taking into consideration the shortage of blood reserve, bank is now procuring new technologies including vans so that they could be installed outdoor to collect blood from donors in addition to the service it has made at its branches.

Though, the bank has collected 85 percent of what it has planned last year, he said that still the volume is not enough to meet the ever increasing demand.

He said that 173 thousand unit of blood is collected last year.

Asegedech Gola, a nurse working at Blood bank said that she herself donated blood for 66 times.

“I am happy to help people in need,” she added.

 She said that people aged between 18-65 are eligible to donations.

Samuel Masresha, resident of Addsi Ababa city, who donated blood for 23 times in every three months interval, is of view of Asegedech.

 He said that he feels good in donating blood. According to him, by donating blood, he was able to care more for his health and also take advantage of free examination at time he wants to do.
Residents said that low level of understanding of people towards blood donations impacts the volume of blood reserve, the factor the Bank agrees.
