Somali perseveres to improve lives of pastoralists

The Somali region of Ethiopia said that it has been working to support pastoralist become semi-pastoralists.

Region’s Irrigation and watershed development head, Sultan Mohammemd Hassen told Walta that the support the region extend help farmers, who were ravaged by the drought last year to sustainably feed themselves.

He said that region availed land, generators, and training for organized famers to produce fruits in addition to the usual pastoral life.

According to him, the project, which is started in Shebele zone of the region, will be expanded to many zones, as it has been proved successful.

The pastoralist also said that they are happy to start living by producing fruits and crops.

Wabis Shebelle River, which crosses many parts of the region, is being utilized to irrigate the region.
