Concerted effort of all needed to return sustainable peace in the country-Religious leaders

Forum of Ethiopian Religious Institutions has stressed on the need for the concerted effort of all for prevailing of sustainable peace and unity in the country.

The forum, through a statement released after concluding its meeting held on current affairs in the country yesterday, indicated that all stakeholders including religious leaders, community elders, Aba Gedas, leaders of social unions, artists, and other communal organs should make unreserved effort to contain elements that damage peace, and development in the country.

The statement indicated that the violence that is happening in some parts of the country is claiming the lives of citizens, posing physical and psychological damages up on people and property and the youth, who are primary victims of the incidents, should play the primary role to stop them.

The religious leaders urged the youth to refrain from engaging in the destructives motives of some elements and submit their quests in peaceful manner. Intentional havoc is created in the universities to purposefully divert the attention of youth from engaging in developmental schemes in different parts of the country.  

The students should understand the destructive intentions of local and foreign anti-peace elements and make their focus entirely on the teaching and learning process.

The statements also stressed on the need for the leadership to be farsighted and give prior focus to the benefit of the public at large and undertake their legal responsibility in such a manner.

The media should also refrain from reporting violence inciting scenarios and give due attention to the strengthening of peace and tranquility in the country, the statement reiterated.
