Ethiopia, Saudi agree on minimum wage of Ethiopian domestic workers

The Ministry of Social and Labor Affairs today announced that it has inked agreement with the government of Saudi to make 1000 Saudi Riyal a minimum wage of Ethiopian domestic workers in Saudi.

Minister Ergoge Tesfaye (PhD) said that recently the two governments reached an agreement to ensure the protection of Ethiopians, who enter into Saudi in legal ways.

According to the Minister, Ethiopia is waiting for Jordan and United Arab Emirates to approve wage agreement for legal Ethiopian emigrants as Qatar and kingdom of Saudi Arabia did.

Three months long training will also be given to Ethiopians so that they will compete with other nationals and easily familiarize themselves with the cultures the respective countries they destined to, the ministry said.

The minister also said that the government will further efforts to ensure the rights of women along with the improvement of salary.
