First Lady lays cornerstone for s. school in Somali Region

First Lady of Ethiopia Zinash Tayachew has laid a cornerstone for the construction of a secondary school in Jigjiga, the capital of Somali regional state, with 20 million birr.

Office of the First Lay will cover the construction cost. The school will be completed within a year.

Chief Administrator of Somali regional state, Mustefa Mohammed, for his part said the due attention paid by the First Lady to the sector would help to improve access to education in the country.

The First Lady arrived in Jigjiga this morning.

Upon arrival at the Jigjiga airport, she was welcomed by Mustefa Mohammed, Deputy Chief Administrator of Somali regional state.

During her stay in Jigjiga, she will also attend the 8th Ethiopian cities’ day celebration.

Celebration of 8th Ethiopian cities’ day kicked off last Saturday in the presence of senior government officials, including President Sahle-Work Zewde.

Representatives from 167 Ethiopian cities/towns and 6 cities from neighboring countries as well as 10 UN agencies are also in attendance of the event.

The celebration will continue until February 21, 2019 under the theme “Medemer for the Prosperity of Ethiopian Cities!”
