City takes measure against factories alleged of polluting environment

The Addis Ababa City Administration Environment Protection and Green development Commission said that it has shut down two factories, which it accused of polluting the environment.

The people, who live near by the factories also complain that their health affected by residues leaked from these factories.

Environment Commission Director with the Commission, Bayu Tola, the two factorie–Hansen Glass Factory and Dire leather factors got closed after they repeatedly failed to warnings to make corrections.

However, the owners of the factories have said that while the commission came to seal off the factory, they were commissioning a study on how to avoid pollution as per the warnings.

The employees of the factories also complained they are not supplied with safety wears.

Bayu also pledged to close factories, which pose similar problems on the people and environment.
