Ethiopia unveils traditional medicine research, study roadmap

A roadmap that is dubbed to integrate, preserve and strengthen knowledge, research and study in traditional medicine is made official today.

A three-day forum attended by traditional medicine practitioners drawn from different areas of the country has started today at the Ethiopian Public Health Institute.

Speaking during the introduction of the roadmap, Minister of Health, Amir Aman (PhD), noted that the roadmap is aimed at backing the traditional medicine with scientific research, strengthen its role, diminish side effects and integrate it with modern medicine.

The Minister underscored that as traditional medicine is one of the untapped potentials in Ethiopia, a lot needs to be done to link the sector with the academic studies and prepare inputs to deliver knowledge based service through it.

The government shall give due emphasis to enhancing their curing capacity by working together with pharmaceuticals and traditional medicine practitioners, he added.

Association of traditional medicine practitioners and the Ministry of Higher Education and Science have signed a memorandum after the unveiling of the roadmap.
