U.S., African leaders congratulate Ethiopian PM Abiy over his Nobel Prize win

The government of U.S. and many African leaders congratulated Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed of Ethiopia over his win of the prestigious the 2019 Nobel Peace Prize, the U.S. Embassy to Ethiopia said in statement.

The PM is awarded for his contribution of brokering peace in the Horn of Africa region, and particularly for his effort to end the decades old stalemate his country had with neighboring Eritrea, the Nobel Committee said while announcing the winner.

“We join all Ethiopians as they celebrate this proud moment for Prime Minister Abiy and the people of Ethiopia”, the statement added. According the statement, the award has been given the PM in recognition to his efforts to make peace with Eritrea and his commitment to bring democracy and inclusive development in Ethiopia.

The statement also said that “The United States remains fully committed to supporting Ethiopia’s people and government as they build their democratic and prosperous future.”         

Many world leaders including Abud Fatah Al sisi of Egypt, Mohamed Bin Zayid of United Arab  Emirates and Mohammed Abulahi of Somalia congradulated PM Abiy while he is receiving congratulatory messages at home from his supports and regional goverments.
