Antonio Guterres says UN will “fully support” AU development policies

The United Nations (UN) will in its fullest capacity support the developmental policies of Africa to the benefit of the African population, UN secretary general, Antonio Guterres, told a press conference today.

The Secretary General was in Addis Ababa to attend the 30th AU summit.

According to him, the UN will cooperate economically, unlike before, which was in the area of peace and security, to help realize Agenda 2063, the biggest development program of the Africa.

“This economic cooperation is very important step,” he added.

He said that development is “at the center of partnership” between the AU and UN.

The cooperation in the peace and security sector and the need to reviewing of strategy of peace keeping will still a focus area of cooperation between the two organizations, according to him.
