Authority issues TV broadcasting license to Walta

August 19, 2016 (WIC) – The Ethiopian Broadcasting Authority (EBA) has issued a commercial private satellite TV broadcasting license to Walta Information Center PLC.

Media and Production Department Manager with the Company, Almaz Beyene, told WIC that the Company has fulfilled requirements of the evaluation of the acquisition of private TV stations and has acquired accreditations, she noted.

She added that Walta has been broadcasting its productions with EBC and has many editing rooms and studios. Currently the company is setting up huge studio to host different programs and other related issues.

Similarly, the company is hiring 50 new employees in addition to the 61 well capable professional journalists who are already working with it.

The company’s focus areas are building the developmental democracy, unity and diversity of the people. Besides, innovation, quality, timeliness, relevancy and transparency are among the ethical principles of international journalism that the company shall abide with.

The company that is working under the motto “Make a Difference has targeted to broadcast in English, French, Swahili and Arabic languages in the coming ten years.

Walta Information Center has begun 18 hours trial transmission since March and will commence full TV broadcast in a month.

Fana Broadcasting Corporate (FBC) and Dimtsi Woyane are among the media companies to which the agency also issued the broadcasting license, Walta learnt.
