Authority collects 63 bln birr revenue in four months

The Ethiopian Customs and Revenue Authority announced that it has collected 63 billion birr revenue from tax and custom services within four months of this budget year.

Authority’s Director General, Moges Balcha, told a press conference today that the Authority has managed to collect 63 bln birr in first quarter of this budget year, which is short of the planned 72 bln birr.

The authority performed low in these four months period, which according to Moges, collected 27 percent of the set target of collecting 33 percent of the year.

He ascribed the low collection performance of the Authority to problems related to tax collection and reluctance in parts of the business communities to be abided by the law.

The Authority is set to collect 230 bln birr in this budget year.
