A Farewell Ceremony Undertaken for Youths Joining the Army

Addis Ababa, July 27, 2021 (Walta) – A farewell ceremony is conducted for youths joining the Nation Defense Forces from Addis Ababa City at Meskel Square today.

The ceremony was attended by Deputy Mayor of Addis Ababa City Administration, Adanech Abebe, FDRE Minister of Defense, Kena Yadeta (PhD), and other relevant officials.

Speaking at the program the deputy mayor  of Addis Ababa City Administration acknowledged the youths for their decision to join the the Ethiopian Defense Forces.  She said  that it is imperative to incapacitate the terrorist group [TPLF]  plotting to divide the country.

The House of Peoples Representatives has recently designated the Tigray Peoples Liberation Front (TPLF) as terrorist group.

On the other hand, she called on up the Tigray Youth  to refrain from sacrificing themselves for the evil deeds of   TPLF. She called on the youths of Tigray region to condemn the actions of the terrorist group.

The Minister of the National Defense Force of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia, Kena Yadeta (PhD), on his part, said that Ethiopia is a country that has maintained its sovereignty for centuries. It must uphold its sovereignty in the future as well.

The minister provided his gratitude to the youths for their swift response to the call to join the National Defense Force.

The Addis Ababa City Administration has been providing support to the National Defense Force since the force force began the Law and Order  Operation in the Tigray Region of Ethiopia almost nine months ago.

The National Defense Force has engaged in the Law and Order Operation following a surprise attack by TPLF Special Forces on Ethiopian Defense Force Northern Command camps through out the region.

The city administration has mobilized more than 1.1 billion birr in cash and in kind.   Part of that support has been handed over to the defense today at the farewell ceremony held at the center of the city, Meskel Square.
